2009 John Beargrease Sled Dog Race

MARATHON TEAMS

Jen and Blake are bib #22 and #16 respectively
They hit Two Harbors at aprox. 7:00pm 1/25, rested, left at 10pm
Beaver Bay at about 2am, rested with happy dogs curled up on straw over vapor barriers and covered with blankets and sleeping bags.
They took off again before 6am on Monday 1/26, and left Sawbill together at aprox. 3pm 1/26.
They're headed for Trail Center right on schedule with all their dogs.
Crossed the Caribou road crossing together at 16:24 1/26/09.
Into Trail Center together at 20:50 and 20:51 1/26 with all dogs.
Out of Trail Center at Midnight
In 2nd and 3rd position, Resting at Devils Track at 9am 1/27.
Left Devils Track before 1pm 1/27, Jen with 10 dogs, Blake with 13. very icy last night - no word on which dogs dropped or why yet. In 1st and 2nd positions!!
Jen and Blake into Sawbill about 5pm.
Jen and Blake into Two Harbors at 6am and 7:30am. Resting with bellies full - dogs and handlers alike.
Blake finished 3rd, and Jen finished 5th at Billies.


Blake's team started with Trouble, Einstein, Frog, Tagish, Chester, Punto, Watt, Gonzo, Kimber, Mac, Steer, Remi, Slug, and Roland. He had to drop Gonzo, Watt, Punto and Einstein due to temporary wrist soreness.






Jen started with Trekkie, Kyat, Takhini, Karhu, Attila, Peso, Muski, Kenzie, Ziggy, Taku, Domita, Kracker, and Tuuli. Her young and old dogs (2yo and 9yo included) had a lot of wrist soreness due to hard, fast trails. She finished with Trekkie, Karhu, Peso, Muski, Taku, Domita, and Tuuli.

BEARGREASE 150
Alice White Finished the Beargrease 150!!
All 8 puppies were guided successfully through their first 150-mile race by rookie Alice White from Georgia. They finished with the Red Lantern in 28th place in good condition with many veteran mushers not finishing and scratching behind them. Good job, Alice!

Alice had experienced Inga and Fiona as her leaders. They guided Avery, Hjordis, Genghis, Hagar, Yoda, and Nic who are all two years old.

Bodo, Iditarod Veteran, is resting at Grandma's house healing a broken foot and listening to the HAM radio updates. Learning to beg from the table and learning to steal the ball from the German Shepherds.
